Meet Manuel Ågren: Kristdala, Swedish titles and the road home

Manuel Ågren is back with IK. His road home runs through Kristdala, IK’s hockey school, years away, an SHL title with Växjö, illness and injuries – and another Swedish title in Oskarshamn with Lemmings.

THE GLID INTE CASE

Kristdala is not a footnote in Manuel Ågren’s hockey story. It is where it starts. From there came IK’s hockey school and junior system, then the road out into Swedish hockey — and eventually all the way back home.

Ågren has collected more than a few miles on the hockey bus. He built a long SHL career and became a Swedish champion with Växjö Lakers in 2023. The route was anything but straight. In IK’s own podcast he talks about a serious period of illness, injuries and the decision to leave Växjö and move home again.

That made his return in May bigger than another signing. A homegrown player came back to the club where his hockey journey began and signed a 2+1-year deal. For a team trying to build identity, it is hard to find a more obvious piece of Oskarshamn than that.

Then came the summer. Manne pulled on the Lemmings IHC jersey and won the Swedish inline hockey championship at Be-Ge Hockey Center. It was not just another medal. Lemmings’ title was the first Swedish senior team-sport championship ever won by a club from Oskarshamn. Not a bad little detail for a town that likes to call itself a hockey town.

Kristdala to IK. Oskarshamn to the SHL, to the top of the podium and then back home. Manne has already travelled a fair distance in hockey. The interesting part now is what he can do with IK after completing the circle.
