SHL Season Preview: Örebro

Sanny Lindström and Henric Larsson assess Örebro ahead of the SHL season. Among the topics discussed are Robin Salo’s role, the goaltending, the costly final signing, the need for more scoring depth and how the team will play under Martin Filander.

WE HEARD THAT TOO

Filander’s roster build makes this look at Örebro more interesting than a standard rival-team review.

CG has left the sports desk – and Oskarshamn is losing more than a reporter

Christian Gustafsson is no longer part of Barometern-OT’s sports desk, according to Victor Laag in the newspaper’s own comments section. For many years, Gustafsson was one of the most distinctive voices around IK and played a central role in Ickedickedoa and, later, Barometern-OT’s hockey podcast.

WE HEARD THAT TOO

We do not know why CG has left the sports desk. So we do not know whether it has anything to do with the podcast, the focus on Kalmar, internal organisation, his work as an author or something else entirely. But the impact on Oskarshamn is easier to assess: the sharpest pen in the country has left the IK sphere as a full-time presence. Match reports can be replaced. A voice that made Oskarshamn, IK and its hockey culture interesting far beyond the municipality is considerably harder to replace. Once Barometern has sobered up – and perhaps someone within the Gota Media/Bonnier partnership realises what has been lost – we would gladly welcome CG back, with both pen and microphone.
