IK’s latest update contains two genuinely new pieces of information ahead of tonight’s away game against Leksand: Joel Myrberg Andersson has been brought in on loan from Borlänge HF for the game, while Filip Sveningsson’s upper-body injury is expected to keep him out for around four weeks.
For Pontus Näsén, the update is not the same kind of news. We already knew that his injury would keep him out for an extended period; today’s official prognosis of around four weeks clarifies that situation rather than representing a new injury update.
That makes the loan signing of Myrberg Andersson more interesting than simply adding another name to the roster. IK head into their toughest game so far with Manuel Ågren already sidelined, Sveningsson out and Näsén’s offensive edge missing from the blue line. Myrberg Andersson is 23 and joins from Borlänge in Hockeyettan. IK’s announcement applies to tonight’s game; no longer loan spell has been communicated.
It therefore does not solve the bigger question surrounding the roster. Away to Leksand will still be a good test of how much offensive quality IK actually possess when some of the players expected to lead the way are missing. If the team can still create chances and pose a threat, that will be an important statement. If the gap becomes clear against stronger opposition, the question of adding more experienced quality will remain even after Ågren returns.
Sveningsson’s four-week prognosis is significant in its own right. This is no longer simply a case of him missing the Leksand game, but an absence lasting several weeks.
