IK finished their 6–2 defeat in Mora with five regular defenders on the injury list. Centre Filiph Engsund even had to finish the game on defence. Ahead of Wednesday's away game against Nybro, the situation remains serious.
According to Barometern's interview with sporting director Arsi Piispanen, Ludvig Markman and Ludvig Georgsson are being assessed day by day. Ville Jonsson needs further examination. Pontus Näsén is unavailable and is not expected back this week. The club hopes Ludvig Östman may play on Wednesday, provided there is no setback.
There is better news up front: Manuel Ågren could return during the week, although that is not confirmed.
Martin Pärna is also leaving IK after seven games. His short-term contract has expired and will not be extended.
More than an injury update
Injuries cannot be eliminated. But a squad can be built to withstand setbacks. Moving Engsund back to defence illustrates just how thin IK's margins have become.
We have repeatedly called for experience and stability, not simply more points. Getting Ågren and possibly Östman back would be valuable, but it would not remove the need to examine the squad's depth over a long season.
Piispanen tells Barometern that the club is considering alternatives if the shortage of defenders continues against Nybro, but nothing has been agreed.
IK need more than hopeful updates. They need available players – and a plan that lasts beyond the next face-off.
