Alexander Younan is back at IK. The club have signed him to a short-term, game-by-game agreement to cover injuries on defence.
There is an Oskarshamn connection: Younan made his senior debut for IK in 2014. According to the club's announcement, he has now played more than 200 HockeyAllsvenskan games. Sporting director Arsi Piispanen highlights that experience of the league.
Experience that needs to show
For GLID INTE, this is primarily a response to an immediate need, not something to dress up as a completed long-term squad plan. Game by game means precisely that. We should neither promise an extension nor dismiss a short agreement before he has played.
What we want from his experience is straightforward: clear decisions with the puck, communication in the defensive zone and fewer situations where someone else has to rescue an avoidable problem. Those contributions can matter without appearing in the points column.
Younan arrives alongside Anton Malmström, on loan from Björklöven. IK have acted on their shortage of defenders. That is welcome. But the newcomers need a reasonable task: help the team, rather than carry sole responsibility for everything that needs improving.
