It was not always tidy, but IK recovered from Vimmerby's opening goal and won 4–1 on the road. Calle Karlsson scored twice and set the tone for the turnaround.
IK went to Vimmerby expected to act like the big brother. In the end, they did. The 4–1 win was clear and welcome, even if the road there was more uneven than the final score suggests. At times the game became open and chance-heavy, almost like junior hockey. IK still won because they had the greater individual offensive quality.
Vimmerby took the lead through Max Karlsson after 7:34, assisted by Hugo Lejon and Johan Mörnsjö. IK answered quickly. Just 86 seconds later Calle Karlsson equalised, with Axel Elofsson and Joel Svensson assisting. Those three provided much of the positive play when IK initially struggled to find the right level.
Calle in particular looked determined to make the difference. He was active, dangerous and gave IK energy when it was missing elsewhere. At 30:54 he made it 2–1, assisted by Filiph Engsund and Melker Eriksson. Two goals, a shot off the bar away from a hat-trick, and another performance that should move him closer to getting his own chant.
IK were far from perfect. Vimmerby managed to shape the game to their liking for stretches: messy, open and without much control. IK still fluctuate too much in intensity. A team with ambitions higher up the HockeyAllsvenskan table should be able to shut this kind of game down earlier rather than invite the opponent in through comfortable minutes and sloppy decisions.
But when the game had to be decided, IK had more to bring. Melker Eriksson made it 3–1 at 44:51 after a fine pass from Joel Svensson, with Axel Elofsson also assisting. Captain Herman Hansson then completed the 4–1 win into the empty net.
This was not the dominant performance we asked for before the game. Vimmerby deserve credit for playing for each other and getting a lot out of their collective. IK had the better individuals, above all Calle and Elofsson. The win is good. The performance still leaves room for the argument that IK could use another experienced high-end forward who can raise the team's floor on nights when the game starts drifting.
A clear 4–1 road win without a dominant performance. Calle Karlsson was the difference-maker, Axel Elofsson continued to impress, and IK's individual quality ultimately decided a game in which Vimmerby often looked like the more coherent collective.
