IK are bringing in Olle Karlsson from Växjö Lakers, according to Barometern-OT.
Karlsson is 17 and a Boro/Vetlanda product. He has opened the U20 season with three goals in three games and has already been exposed to senior hockey in Växjö’s organisation.
There is another reason this move is internationally interesting. The Hockey News has listed Karlsson among five players to watch in Sweden ahead of the 2027 NHL Draft. He was also part of Sweden’s U18 team that won World Championship gold this spring.
For IK, this is an intriguing upside play, somewhat similar to the Axel Elofsson route: a young player with the opportunity to take on greater responsibility in HockeyAllsvenskan. His Vetlanda background also gives the move a clear Småland connection close to Oskarshamn.
It would still be unfair to put Manuel Ågren’s shoes on a 17-year-old. Karlsson is an exciting offensive prospect, but if Ågren is out for an extended period, the question of additional proven quality may remain.
