In our article ahead of the international camp, we said Elofsson's decisions in his own zone were as interesting to follow as his points. That is where he needs to progress to become a more complete senior defenceman.
After Sweden's opening game in Nyköping, head coach Magnus Hävelid gave his assessment in an interview with Hockeysverige. He said Elofsson had improved defensively and significantly raised his baseline level. He linked that progress to facing heavier players in everyday senior hockey.
That is encouraging for IK. The points have already shown what Elofsson can do with the puck. Becoming more reliable when his team is defending would make him more valuable across a whole game. That is the development we want to keep seeing in Oskarshamn.
Elofsson was listed in the third defensive pairing alongside Liam Pettersson as Sweden beat Slovakia 4–1 on 4 November, according to the association's official game sheet.
Switzerland are next in Nyköping on Thursday 5 November at 19:00 CET, according to the Swedish Ice Hockey Association's schedule.
